I had read somewhere that if you visited a new beach everyday you would need 27 year!! Holy shit!! But, Australia is so much more than just beaches and outback.
The Hinterlands, wow the most beautiful tropical forrest. The Gold Coast Hinterland includes the Tweed Range, Nimmel Range, Tamborine mountain and Numinbah Valley. This area is pretty significant for tourism and you can do wine tasting, bird feeding, and bush walking. There is plenty of waterfalls and has the famous natural bridge!
Let's dive into my journey to Springbrook. When I first arrived in Brisbane I was waiting for my license and wasn't able to start work yet. It was bucketing rain (Aussie term for pouring) and what a better time to chase some waterfalls! More rain, the better the waterfall!
Well I convinced one of my friends to go and drive, because eI didn't have a car yet. On the way there the rain had subsided and we thought we were in luck! We get to the start on the Springbrook trail and its wet, but totally manageable. we get to the lookout and you can hear the crashing waterfall but can't see a thing!! It was so cloudy/ foggy you couldn't see anything. Well we kept on walking anyway, and they had closed the gate, the trail was closed!! We were so devastated since we had drove over an hour just to see the waterfalls! Little did we know it was completely flooded and that is why the trail was closed! We did try and see Twin falls while in the area, again unable to see the view and while on the walking trail we stumbled upon a HUGE python! Who just had a feed, what an experience! After this trip the whole area was flooded and in a state of emergency with plenty of cars and people stranded because of the floods. Australia sure does have extreme weather!
So, Springbrook take two! Well I bought a care, so Lizzie and I decided to attempt to go and see it again! This time is wasn't raining, and we were off to a good start. This was my first time really driving on the opposite side of the road. Thank you Lizzie for braving the first time driving with me!
Wow, once you arrive you get a cheeky taste of the waterfall over the lookout. you get a chance to hike all the way down and see it from the bottom. The walk in itself is fairly easy. It is such a beautiful tropical walk! So be prepared for the humidity! It keep your eye out for the local animals, spiders, snakes and other four legged creatures. Don't forget your bathers/ togs/ swimmers because you can go for a dip in the water a little further down the trail! In the same location for a swim is a great little picnic spot to enjoy a little mid hike snack, take in the fresh air and cool off in the water!
Since we were in the area we decided to stop at the natural bridge! which also happens to be a glow worm cave! It isn't dark enough to see the glow worms but still pretty neat. Under the natural bridge is also the largest colony of micro bats! and yes there were so many, harmless. They asked that you don't take photos with a flash under the bridge because it can disturb the animals!
I absolutely love chasing waterfalls! Just something about them that I think is so fascinating! Eventually once I have been to enough of them here I will share my favourites!
I am also going to spare you and not share my photo of the huge python. If you follow me on Instagram it is saved in my highlights under QLD
xoxo Nic
