(The garden that my friend and I share)

Are you a gardener? Do you like to garden? I don't want to say that I am new to the idea, but I am not a pro either. Far from it actually.

Growing up my mom had the most massive garden. It was filled with a ton of fruit trees, rows upon rows of potatoes, and plenty of veggies. Oh and it contained so many WEEDS, it usually was too much to handle.

I dreaded weeding, it felt it was never ending. Then harvest came around. All I remember was picking and shelling peas... We used to have so many pails of peas that all five of us would stuff into the basement (basement was colder in summer, no AC for this gal) and shell peas while watching a movie. Kinda was turned into a family activity.

Now that I am older and on my own I find myself so excited to plant a garden and watch it a every step of the way. Weeding and all. I have had a garden, a small one for three ish years now and I am still no expert. I am still learning and experimenting what works. This year I have decided its time to make a garden book. With all the things I am learning, what grows best beside each other? What should be planted when? These are the things I either look up every year or just wing it and see what happens. The people who work at garden centres are also so knowledgeable and helpful. Lakeshore and Early's Farm and Garden are my favourite garden centres in Saskatoon.

I personally enjoy gardening because NOTHING tastes better then garden veggies. Fresh from the garden, probably with a little dirt on them. DELICIOUS!! Plus I love that I am able to grow my own food and provide for myself. The feeling of being sustainable is a great feeling and I hope to get better and better every year. Watch "The Biggest Little Farm" on Netflix if you need some inspiration.

Plus, with all my tomatoes and peppers I make salsa. I make a mean homemade salsa, just ask my friends.

Stay tuned for the harvest! If you have ANY garden tips for someone still figuring it out, please leave a comment!

Nicole :)
